LA JOYA - I never did get an answer from Leonel Casas as to why he wanted to play this game at 1 pm on a Friday. Whatever his reasons were, it has held down the attendance a little bit. Few people other than me work on this day but it’s still a strange time. I doubt that Casas cares about attendance, nor should he.
The weather has probably kept some fans away, too.
This also could be the last home game for La Joya as one school. Casas told me that hasn’t entered his mind, and I believe him. All of the observances of that were two weeks ago. To my knowledge, nothing is planned today.
Could someone tell me why the J in PSJA is accented on the Bears’ helmets? Is there some significance to the “Juan” I don’t know about? The only reason I can think of is that it resembles the Texas A&M helmet. Yeah, that’s probably it.
I hope coach Mel Rios doesn’t end up like coach Fran.
