DONNA- Well, that’s it for me this weekend.
Four games, two hellacious deadlines and one ruined pair of shoes. This was a dream weekend as a journalist and lover of football. It also tested me as a reporter in ways I hadn’t been before.
Just for kicks, here are some awards from this weekend that saw three District 30-5A teams get eliminated from the playoffs:
Best game- In a very close call, I’m going with the Harlingen South-Rowe game. It had the possibility of a great upset, drama and controversy. It narrowly edges out the McHi-Weslaco and Los Fresnos-Donna games. Those two were also stupendous.
Best team performance- Los Fresnos. While Harlingen South won on the road, the Falcons beat an evenly-matched team at their place. Danny Mendez is quite a tough, little running back.
Best individual performance- Mishak Rivas’ 26 carries for 313 yards and 4 TDs. That fellow is ridiculous.
Biggest surprise- La Joya beating PSJA High. Although, wasn’t it PSJA High beating PSJA High?
So, that wraps it up from here. I hope you, the reader, enjoyed the blogging. If I’m heading to Laredo next weekend for the La Joya game, I’ll see ya then. If not, I’ll blog from whichever game I’m covering.
Brian
